According my reliable sources inside Top Rank, the proposed showdown between Nonito Donaire, Jr. and Jorge Arce in October is not a done deal. This after the Mexican veteran slugger allegedly asked for too much money to fight “The Filipino Flash”.
It’s the same old story for the two after years of failed attempts to make a fight between them happen, which Donaire claims is due to Arce overpricing himself to fight him.
How about $1 million dollars much worth? “That’s what I heard too,” Donaire’s trainer Robert Garcia told me in Las Vegas recently. To add to the confusion, Arce has been reported to be looking for a “tune-up” fight later this month.
One man who benefits the most from this turn of evens is WBC super bantamweight champion Emeritus Toshiaki Nishioka, who has been practically begging for a showdown with Donaire, and might very well get it. In fact, my source claims it’s all but a done deal in October at the Honda Center or Home Depot Center in LA.
“We’ll see. There’s no signed contracts yet, but I’ve heard that too,” Garcia responded to me when I asked him about the news.
