If you ask me, Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao is a boxing bout that is not only long over due, but it has lost most of its luster. To be honest, I believe this is no longer a 100 million dollar fight, maybe 50 million at best. Recently quoted by in an article by the SUN (a U.K. based media publication), the legendary “Sugar” Ray Leonard gave his views on how the fight is will lose meaning if they two don’t fight soon.
Leonard, quoted by the Sun regarding Floyd “Money” Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, stated: “Speaking as a boxing fan, naturally I want to see that fight… and I want to see it sooner rather than later.”
Leonard went on to add: “It won’t be the same if they leave it much longer.”
Now myself, I think that day of the fight being a meaningful one has long gone and past.
In Leonard’s day, he gave the fans what they wanted and never backed from a challenge. Leonard vs. Roberto Duran… now those were some damn great classics. Perhaps we were spoiled in the good old days.
