Manny Pacquiao – After the controversial loss to Tim Bradley which was Pacquiao first lost in several years many would consider Pacquiao stock on the decline. Especially since Pacquiao put in what many considered a lackluster performance in his prior fight against Juan Manuel Marquez. However, my view is that Pacquiao still remains the top draw in the sport and still beloved by all of his fans. If Pacquiao can somehow workout the details with Floyd Mayweather and set up what could be the biggest fight in boxing history. And then pull off a victory he will go down as the greatest ever. So as of now Pacquiao stock remains neutral. Floyd Mayweather – Stock Up – Mayweather?s stock is on the rise he remains the biggest draw in the PPV wars racking up one million plus buys one after the other. Lately in the ring he has shown that he is willing to be a more offensive minded fighter which only will increase his value. Look for Mayweather to take on another challenger towards the end of the year. Victor Ortiz ? Stock Up – After two losses in a row to Mayweather and Lopez one would consider the stock of Ortiz to be on the decline. However, Ortiz comes into the ring as an all action fighter and leaves the ring filled with controversy.Action and controversy only increases ones value networks will go out of their way to get Ortiz on their network. After recovering from his broken jaw which he suffered during his recent loss to Lopez look for Ortiz to either get a rematch with Lopez or take on another top ten fighter.
Kelly Pavlik – Stock Up ? Pavlik seems to have his life and boxing career back on track after a stint in rehab and a few other incidents Pavlik changed trainers from Jack Lowe to California based Robert Garcia.Under the eye of Garcia, Pavlik has had two straight tune up victories. Look for Top Rank and Bob Arum to get Pavlik a big name for his next fight. Pavlik is definitely back and his stock is on the rise. Cory Spinks ? Stock Down ? Spinks had his last chance a few weeks ago against K9 Bundrage to bring home the title belt and keep his career going. Spinks couldn?t survive three several rounds knockdowns and with that Spinks boxing career is just about over and his stock is on the decline. Lucian Bute – Stock Down – Bute suffered his first defeat back on May 26th a 5th round knockout by underdog Carl Froch. Bute who was defending his title in Froch?s hometown of Nottingham, England which is outside of his normal comforts of his hometown of Montreal. The big question here is if Bute can come up big outside of his normal confines and without his large fan base cheering him on. I understand a rematch with Froch is planned after they each take interim bouts first a lackluster Bute performance in his interim bout will further diminish his stock. Josesito Lopez – Stock Up ? What more can you say about jaw breaking Josesito Lopez who already capitalized off of his victory over Victor Ortiz and is now set to fight Canelo Alvarez on September 15th. Lopez cashes in on the big victory and gets the big payday fight with Alvarez.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. ? Stock Up ? Another fighter who is on the rise. With a nice win over Andy Lee a few months back and a September 15th bout set with Sergio Martinez expectations are super high for Chavez Jr. If we can defeat Martinez in September and Chavez will move right up the pound for pound list.
Michael Katsidis – Stock Down ? The lightweight brawler who has a hurt knee which caused him to pull out of a scheduled fight with Darley Perez they were due to meet Aug. 10. Katsidis action style is catching up to him he has lost four of his past five fights. Katsidas stock is on the decline.
Paul Malignaggi ? Stock Up ? The magic man now owns the WBA welterweight championship belt. Malignaggi is in talks for an October fight in his hometown of Brooklyn New York. The plan is for Malignaggi to headline and defend his belt in the first boxing event planned for the new Barclays Center. Malignaggi has looked impressive in his first three fights at the 147 weight class and under the direction of his new trainer Eric Brown. Malignaggi stock is on the rise and look for another great performance from the magic man come October.
