With the impending rise in oil prices, the government has embark on new energy conservation programs and pump new life into research for alternative fuel sources, such as flex-fuel cars that run on gasoline, alcohol or any combination of the two, which are widely used in Brazil.

As the nation face an inevitable global trend that remains beyond the control of the government, Malacanang has assured the public that the entire team of the President is incessantly looking for means in order to mitigate and calibrate the inevitable. The government is working with the oil companies and the business sector on safety nets, as well as a hold on price hikes as long as possible.

Meanwhile, the administration has laid down the foundation for national unity and reconciliation with statesmen and leaders gathering around the table to address the most pressing issues facing the country. The ball now rests on the other political leaders if they wish to join the bandwagon of unity towards political, economic and social reforms for the sake of the Filipino people and the generations to come.

Let the decision of the 2007 elections to Congress and the people. It is too early to belabor this issue while the nation faced another round of oil price hikes that threaten the economy. The nation must come first before partisan politics. (PIA)
