Khan’s new cop-out: Escape Goat Coach Roach

So… Amir Khan is hinting at change in his corner and is exasperated with sharing trainer Freddie Roach with eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao?

Wow.

As much as Khan likes to talk about how “great” a fighter he is, it’s quite ironic that he would deflect blame on the man that has helped resurrect his career and elevate it to new heights. Last time I checked, Khan was done in one when he got chin-checked by Breidis Prescott prior to hooking up with Roach.

Imagine Manny Pacquiao blaming Roach for his controversial loss to Timothy Bradley last May, or for his controversial win against Juan Manuel Marquez last November, and that he is spending too much time with Khan, the USA Olympic team, and everyone else Roach trains these days.

Fact is, Roach had been training Pacquiao prior to Khan even being a significant name in boxing. Did he really expect the Hall of Fame trainer to abandon his prized pupil for him? Khan knew what he was getting into, and for some odd reason, splitting time with Pacquiao never really mattered when he was chalking up wins. Khan credited both Pacquiao and Roach for his improvement and rode that bandwagon and acted as the heir to the throne. Khan sang praises like Justin Bieber and Pacquiao was Usher.

Criticisms over Khan have revolved around his chin and his defense as his weakness. Fair enough. To question his skills and talent, however, is ludicrous. Khan is definitely capable of being one of the best fighters of this era, and nobody thinks that more than the man himself. Khan regards himself higher than anyone else in this planet, and that is his true weakness. His ego gets in the way at times, and instead of following Roach’s instructions and “box”, Khan wanted the sensational win and opted to go for the KO. So when he left himself open and got rocked with that left hook, obviously he lost because of jet-lag from following Roach around to train. Right? Makes no damn sense.

There’s only one person to blame for Khan’s loss, and that is Danny Garcia; Garcia’s discipline overcame Khan’s talent and aggression. No mystery man. No PEDs. No referee favoring his opponent. No jet-lags please. Garcia is the only reason Khan lost. Any true boxing fan knows that. Go through Khan’s record and the people he’s beaten. Would you bet against Garcia against any of those names?

All Khan needs to really worry about at this point is to bounce back and improve. And possibly a reality check.
