In baseball circles, they call it a change of scenery. That’s when someone like Kevin Youkilis, a proven veteran, is changes his Sox from red to white and plays for Chicago now instead of Boston. In boxing, it’s a change of trainers and the buzz going around now has both recent big fight losers Amir Khan and Vicious Victor Ortiz considering replacing their chief seconds. It’s rumored that Ortiz, who suffered a broken jaw in losing to long shot underdog Josesito Lopez, has been confronted by trainer Danny Garcia as to hearsay that the fighter is lining up a new trainer going forward. “Danny believes he’s not working with Victor and it’s Victor’s choice,” a source told me Wednesday night. “Danny spoke to Victor and the boxer said it’s not true but Danny believes Victor is looking at Freddie Roach, Naseem Richardson and Ignacio Nacho Beristain to guide his career.” Roach is, of course, Khan’s tutor but the UK ring star told a reporter that he is exploring his “options” as to making a change of trainers. Kahn was explicit in saying he only blames himself for his KO loss to Danny Swift Garcia but admitted that he hasn’t been satisfied playing second fiddle to Roach’s real cash cow, Manny Pacquiao. Khan has even gone to train in the Philippines because Coach Freddie had to be there for Pacman. “Freddie’s a great trainer,” Khan said. “But I’m going to look at my options. I’m happy with Freddie but there a few things I want to change.” Speaking of baseball, how about a straight trainer swap, Garcia goes with Khan and Freddie begins handling Ortiz?
