CLOSE to 4,000 policemen will be deployed to secure boxing champion Manny Pacquiao when he comes home to a hero’s welcome on Friday, Metro Manila’s police chief said Thursday. Troops from Task Force Pacquiao will secure the routes of the ticker tape parade, which will pass through Manila and Quezon City, Director Vidal Querol said in a phone interview.
Police will also guard Pacquaio’s stops including Malaca?ang Palace, Manila City Hall, and the Rajah Solaiman Park, where a street party has been set, he said.
“We are all set. The police will be there mainly for crowd control,” Querol said.
Querol met district commanders in the metropolis in his office at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 10 to finalize security preparations.
“We don’t see any terrorist threat to the celebrations,” he said, adding Metro Manila police will remain on normal alert for the festivities.
The nation rejoiced when Pacquiao beat Mexican Erik Morales at their rematch in Las Vegas Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
