The sensational victory of Philippine ring icon Manny Pacquiao over Mexican boxing idol Erik Morales in Las Vegas, Nevadao on Jan. 22 should carry a call for national unity.
Bayan Muna provincial coordinator John Ruiz in a statement said Pacquiao’s winning moment has been viewed as a period in which both the administration and the opposition, the Right and the Left, the rich and the poor became united in savoring the honor Pacquiao has brought upon the country.
But Ruiz said that behind the jubilant mood, Pacquiao’s victory should not overshadow the pressing problems besetting the country but rather “encourage us to work hard to defeat corruption and political instability.”
“Sama sa gipakita ni Manny Pacquiao, gikinahanglan sa katawhan ang paggunit sa mga hiyas sa patriotismo, sakripisyo ug determinasyon aron mapalagpot ang nangunang suliran sa krisis sa politika karon nga mao ang pamunuan ni GMA (Like what Manny had shown to us, we need to cling to the ideals of patriotism, self-sacrifice and self-determination so we can overcome the political crisis in the GMA administration),” Ruiz said.
“Sama usab sa taktika ni Manny, ang kombinasyon sa tuo ug walang kumo, gikinahanglan ang panaghiusa gikan sa tuo ug walang mga pundo alang sa usa ka tumong sa pagpalagpot sa kwestionableng liderato (Like the tactic of Manny, combining both the right and left punches, we need a unified force from both the left and the right sides in order to overthrow a questionable leadership),” the Bayan Muna leader
