Ring legend Floyd Mayweather Jr is not able to maintain his top physical condition due to being locked up in a cell for 23 hours per day. This according to his lawyers who are asking the courts to release him and allow him to serve the remainder of his 87 day jail sentence under house arrest. A person’s initial knee jerk reaction would be to say, “No freaking way, this guy deserves to serve each and every day for his crime.” But, let’s not jump to conclusions here. If I had the power to grant Floyd a release from jail, and to allow him to be house arrested instead, I would do it. I would only do it with some conditions though.
Floyd can do society much more good than he can bad. I would tell Floyd that he could be released from jail only if he agreed to do the following conditions.
1 – Donate money to build safe houses/shelters for abused women. 2 – undergo group therapy and anger management classes. 3 – Give public presentations about domestic violence and why it’s never acceptable behavior. Advertisement

Floyd feeds homeless/hungry all of the time, and he gives money for cancer research, and other good causes, so the list of things for him to agree to should be realistic.
OK, so why would I let Floyd out? Floyd is a fighter and love him or hate him, he’s good for the economy. Floyd makes a lot of money, but he also generates money for the American economy. His fights create revenue for others.

Secondly, I am a boxing fan. It’s true that if Floyd is stuck locked in a cell for 23 hours out of a 24 hour day, this could certainly do damage to his boxing career. He’s an elite athlete that requires elite training. He can’t get this training being locked in his cell all day every day.
Even murderers in many cases get more time out of their cells than one hour a day. I want to enjoy more of his fights, and yes hopefully one day see him and Pacquiao fight. I say give Floyd house arrest, let him donate money to build shelters for abused women, and a few other good causes. This will do more good than bad.
