While not all viewers were familiar with Timothy Bradley before his fight with Manny Pacquiao was signed, the boxing public has certainly heard their fair share of him over the past few months.
Bradley will fight Manny Pacquiao this Saturday night out in Las Vegas, and he has to be one of the most confident underdogs that
I can recall in recent memory. During fight week in Las Vegas, Bradley recently took some time to speak with a select group of media members with the Pacquiao fight just a few days away.
Bradley didn?t waste any time as he spoke in a private room inside the MGM Grand, telling the press that if there is one thing about him, it?s that he likes to come out on top.
?I?m in there to win. I?m a winner,? said Bradley. ?If y?all don?t understand anything about me, that?s all I do. I just want to win. It don?t matter what it is. It could be to spit the furthest, run the fastest, jump the furthest, I had to win. I?m not going to stop until I win.?
Pacquiao is looked at as one of boxing?s top two fighters and he has had an impressive run over the past five years, defeating the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, and others. The one thing that seems to inspire Bradley would be the chance to replace Pacquiao and claim his throne.
“The fact that I would be number two,? Bradley said. ?I?d put myself at number two by beating this guy, because of what Floyd Mayweather has done for this game, and I wouldn?t even put myself above that guy until I fight him. Anyways, I just want his spot. I want the throne. I want what he?s created. I want to beat him. I want to be a superstar in this game of boxing.?
One thing about Bradley that has raised some doubts is that some claim he likes to come in with his head, an act that has caused head butts on opponents Nate Campbell and Devon Alexander. The issue obviously isn?t too touchy for Bradley, who was more than willing to discuss his side of the story.
?You can ask me about head butts, whatever. I just take it in stride,? Bradley said. ?I?ve never been penalized for illegally trying to head butt somebody. I didn?t do the whole Victor Ortiz thing, where I jumped in with my head. It?s just, accidents occur in the ring. It?s that I keep my chin tucked, and that?s the reason why I haven?t been knocked out, because I keep that chin tucked.?
Before he finished, Bradley pointed out that he is aware of the doubters and that is why he is trying to change things up for this fight to make sure nothing goes wrong.
?My team and I, my trainer Joel Diaz, we?ve been really focusing on not allowing the heads to clash,? Bradley said. ?Not allowing it to happen in training camp. We?ve been definitely working on throwing our shots before we step in. You should see a huge difference in my style and the way I shoot my shots now. We?re trying to elude any head butts. I don?t want no damn excuses at the end of the night.?
