The day has arrived and for the next 87 days Floyd Mayweather Jr will spend his days in a small jail cell in a Las Vegas jail. His life in the mansion will be light years from his life in a cell block.
When I saw the photo of Floyd in handcuffs today, and his mug shot that TMZ obtained, I had mixed emotions. My initial knee jerk reaction was to feel good about it, and to say to myself, “Serves you right Floyd, this is what you get.” After thinking about it for a few minutes, I changed my tune. Yes I believe that if you do a crime you should do the time, so I have no problem with Floyd heading to jail. I feel bad for his kids, who obviously love him very much.
I have written several articles about Floyd Mayweather over the years. When Floyd says something that is out of line, I write about it. When Floyd does good things like giving money for cancer research, and feeding homeless people, I write about it. Floyd has a lot of good qualities that many folks just refuse to see or acknowledge. Hopefully Floyd will reflect on some of the things that he has done that weren’t so good, and he can come out of this a better person. He is certainly going to have time to think about a lot of things.Floyd will spend just about 3 months in jail. This isn’t exactly a small stretch of time. Three months is a considerable amount of time. This is the beginning of summer and by the time Floyd gets out, September will be right around the corner with Fall knocking on the door. This is enough time for any man to reflect on his life.
Floyd can take these next three months and use the time to make himself a better person. I personally don’t feel that this a time to rejoice. I hope Floyd’s kids will adapt to not having their dad around for awhile. I hope Floyd does his time, gets out, then shows the world just how great a person he can be.
