Moments ago at Nottingham Arena in the United Kingdom, former two-time champion Carl ?The Cobra? Froch pulled off an incredible win in overpowering and dominating former IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute.
Seeming to be inspired from fighting in front of his hometown crowd in Nottingham, Froch was in complete command from the outset of the fight and had little difficulty figuring out Bute?s awkward southpaw stance.
At the end of the night it was Froch?s power that proved to be the equalizer, as he rocked Bute in the third and stalked him in the following rounds. In fifth a barrage from Froch would leave Bute in dire straits and he fell back against the ropes while referee Earl Brown began to give him a count before wisely waiving the fight off.
Froch reached a low point last December in suffering a sound defeat to WBA champion Andre Ward but he has restored his luster with tonight?s performance and at 34 years of age he is now in position for a bevy of intriguing bouts. With the win Froch improves his record to 29-2 with 21 knockouts.
Bute does have a rematch clause in his contract that would call for him to face off with Froch in his native Montreal but it remains to be seen what move he will make.
