AFTER a series of fights on foreign soil, it’s time for a bout at home for Filipino ring warrior Manny Pacquiao.
Pacquiao’s promoter, Gary Shaw, reportedly has hinted of a possible fight for his ward in the Philippines in the near future.
Shaw, according to reports, is set to discuss this with Shelly Finkel, the Filipino boxer’s manager, although nothing is definite yet.
Pacquiao stopped Erik Morales in the 10th round last Saturday in Las Vegas to avenge his loss to the Mexican great back in March also in Las Vegas.
That was the third straight time Pacquiao fought in Las Vegas. He also fought and beat Hector Velazquez in September last year.
The last time the General Santos City native fought in the country was in 2004 when he scored a fifth round stoppage against Thai Fahsan 3K Battery in a bout held in Taguig.
Other than Shaw, there are also Filipino boxing patrons and officials who are willing just to help to have Pacquiao fight in the Philippines.
One of them is First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, who watched Pacquiao’s sensational stoppage of Morales at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, Morales is now back home in San Diego following his defeat to Pacquiao.
Morales, who took a severe beating for 10 rounds was gracious in defeat.
“Last Saturday night I run into a guy with a lot of ambition who wanted to win very much. Was in great condition and was obviously well prepared to fight me,” Morales told Fightnews.com
“It was a very tough intense fight. I think I had some good moments early, but was getting very tired as the fight was going in the later rounds. I have nothing but respect for Pacquiao, he’s a good person and he beat me.”
