Pacman’s album a hit in Vegas

After conquering the ring, Mexican legend Erik Morales and the hearts of legions of fans, Filipino boxing champion may soon become a king of the recording arena.

Star Records, the recording arm of ABS-CBN, said Monday that Pacquio’s debut album started selling like hotcakes immediately after he knocked down Morales on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In Las Vegas alone, 3,000 copies of the album were sold out prompting record stores to place re-orders. The album features the carrier single “Para Sa’yo Ang Laban Na ‘To,” which is about Pacquiao’s prayer to win the fight against Morales and it being dedicated to Filipinos.

Pacquiao recorded the album in October and December last year. The songs in the album were composed and produced by his friend, Lito Camo. Star Records and ABS-CBN Global have exclusively distribution rights.

The album in CD format also features a music video for the carrier single, where Pacquiao is shown in his winning moments during previous fights.

Annabel Regalado of Star Records said that this early, they are already hoping that Pacquiao would sign up for a second album. She said that the boxer’s singing voice has a Rey Valera-quality in it, which makes the “People’s Champion” fit as a recording star.

On Sunday, Pacquiao’s album will have a grand launch at “ASAP Mania” on Channel 2. The launch will also serve as a tribute to the boxer who is expected to arrive in Manila on Friday.

Meanwhile, Solar Films and Solar Sports revealed that the DVD of Pacquio’s greatest fights were also making a killing in the market.

Solar’s Wilson Tieng and Luke Pasilyao said they expect that the DVD would sell better with Pacquio’s latest triumph. The DVD contains fights against Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera, Thailand’s Fahsan 3K Battery and Pacquiao’s March 2005 bout against Morales.
