WHEN talking about experience, Genesis Servania is light years away from grizzled veteran Genaro Garcia. When the 34-year-old Mexican former world title contender made his debut as a pro boxer in 1994, Servania was only two years old. And when the 20-year-old Filipino had his first pro, Garcia had already been in three world title fights.
Despite the disparity, Edito Villamor, Servania?s trainer, believes this is his young unbeaten ward?s time to shine.
?He can say that because he has fought eight world champions and he is a seasoned fighter with a lot of experience,? Villamor told Sun.Star Cebu, on Garcia?s bold statement about knocking out Servania. ?But Genesis is training so hard for this fight because this will be a big opportunity for him to show his abilities to the boxing world and make a name for himself.?
Sevania locks horns with Garcia for the vacant World Boxing Council Silver super bantamweight crown on June 2 at the Resorts World and Casino in Pasay City, Metro Manila.
Garcia recently said that he?ll use Servania as a stepping stone for another crack at a world title.
Garcia, 38-8 with 22 knockouts, has faced world-renowned fighters Hozumi Hasegawa, Luis Alberto Perez, Toshiaki Nishioka and Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
Despite the odds, Villamor, a former world title contender, has found a chink in Garcia?s armor and is working on a strategy to capitalize on it on fight night.
?I won?t say what his weakness is because they (Garcia?s camp) might correct that weakness once they know what it is because that is what we are concentrating on in training,? said Villamor. ?What I can say is that Genesis is ready to fight Garcia.
I guarantee that this would be a great fight that boxing fans should not miss.?
