Antonio “Bidoy” L. Aldeguer, one of the biggest pillars of Cebu boxing, said Manny Pacquiao’s 10th round knockout victory over Erik Morales yesterday was “unbelievable” and that he believed Pacman will reign as the greatest Filipino boxer in the next 50 years.
“What he (Pacquiao) did was unbelievable. It’s truly a great Philippine pride,” said Aldeguer.
“In his generation, no one could get even closer to him. He’s the greatest Filipino boxer and probably in the next 50 years. For me, he’s also the greatest Filipino because he has done more good to our country than anybody else,” added Aldeguer.
Aldeguer said Pacquiao’s effective body punches and the gloves he’s using were the key factors in Pacman’s success that reverberated in all corners of the archipelago and was applauded by 87 million Filipinos.
“Pacquiao’s body punches and the gloves he is using were the big factors. As you can see, Morales was badly hurt by Pacquiao’s blows,” said Aldeguer.
“I was worried at first because in the first five rounds, Pacquiao won only in the second. It was really an amazing comeback for Pacquiao,” added the three-time Sportsman of the Year awardee.
Over in Las Vegas, First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo led the Filipinos in hailing Pacquiao’s triumph.
“That was the most exciting fight I’ve ever seen,” said Arroyo.
“It was an incredible victory for Pacquiao,” said noted boxing analyst Quinito Henson, who covered the event via satellite on Solar Sports together with WBC light flyweight champion Brian Viloria.
