OK to hype but, Tim, do it right, please?

WHAT, a rematch? This early?

In an interview, Timothy Bradley said that after ?I beat Manny Pacquiao, I will give the PacMan a rematch.? Or words to that effect.

What?s this, a joke or something?

We can all crack jokes, yes, but can we go this low?

It isn?t funny, to say the least.

Only the gullible can buy such balderdash.

Bradley beating Pacquiao?

Not funnier than funny; no way.

Crazy, yes.

Tickle me more.

While talks of a rematch in any fight aren?t forbidden, it would look awkward, though, if the one talking about a rematch is virtually a nondescript. Such as Bradley.

If it were Pacquiao saying he?d give Bradley a rematch following a victory ? a PacMan win, really, is almost a given or Erap won?t run for Mayor in Manila in 2013 ? it would have carried some winnable weight.

If there?s one certified boxing icon today, he can only be Pacquiao.

But for a virtual underdog like Bradley, with chances of winning dimming as fast as the occurrences of brownouts in Mindanao, to be talking of a rematch when he hasn?t the best of credentials to score an upset, that?s downright baloney.

Anyways, who is Bradley again?

He is Pacquiao?s opponent on June 10 (PHL time) at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.

He will be Pacquiao?s 60th opponent in a career spanning 17 years.

Bradley will climb the ring with an unbeaten 28-0 record.

The third item just about describes the only meaningful credential that Bradley boasts of: Unbeaten.

That?s the only reason I could think of why Bradley seemed so cocksure in pronouncing the rematch angle ? although his foes?s records were suspect.

But, of course, never discount the hype aspect of the fight.

You are quiet, you end up loudly shooing away fight fans.

You make noise, you almost automatically draw even the most unpersuasive animal to come watch the fight.

Muhammad Ali was, and still is, the best exponent of fight hyping.

Is Bradley doing an Ali?

Well, if yes, then I?ll give it to him.

I just wish he?d do it with some finesse, not to appear as if he is babbling but instead persevering to give his hyping some sense.
