A spokesman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has stated that if newly-incarcerated boxer Floyd Mayweather wants to brush-up on potential future opponent Manny Pacquiao on Saturday, then he will have to leave the confines of protective custody.
Bill Cassell, speaking to Jim Halley of USA Today, stated that the only way Mayweather could watch Pacquiao?s upcoming title defence against Timothy Bradley was to join the other inmates and leave the safety of his single cell – as ‘Money’ has no TV in his cell.
Although Clark County Detention Center does not purchase pay-per-view events, Cassell said that Mayweather would be able to watch any future repeat broadcast if he agreed to mixing with other prisoners – although there is no guarantee that the inmates would allow him to.
“I have no idea who holds the remote. Nothing special is being done to provide this television program or any other program in the jail. We don’t plan on having pay-for-view in the jail. Now, if ESPN or some other channel runs a repeat, he may be able to view it then,” said Cassell.
The 35 year-old WBC welterweight and WBA light-middleweight champion is currently a week into his 90-day sentence for domestic violence and is currently kept apart from the other detainees for his own safety.
Mayweather could serve just five more weeks with good behaviour and may conceivably be able to return to the ring in as early as October as speculation continues to grow over his next opponent.
A future fight with Pacquiao would also rest on the Filipino?s performance on Saturday night, as a Timothy Bradley upset at the MGM Grand could end all talk of the mega-fight if ‘Desert Storm’ becomes the WBO welterweight champion.
