The predictions continue to roll in for tonight?s Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Miguel Cotto super fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Having been up close to witness Mayweather?s preparation this particular camp, respected trainer and former champion Eddie Mustafa Muhammad seems to envision a difficult night for Cotto.
?All I can tell Cotto is to hit the one in the middle,? said Muhammad of the fight, giving praise to Mayweather?s elusive defense skills. ?Hit the man in the middle. I don?t think he?s going to hit Mayweather?s *ss with a bag of rice.?
Muhammad has been bringing two of his finest talents, junior middleweight contender Ishe Smith and super middleweight prospect Badou Jack, over to Mayweather?s gym in search of some sparring the past month, and in the process he was able to take in just how dedicated Mayweather is to his craft after all these years.
His thoughts on the fight aren?t meant to knock Cotto, but more so in praise of Mayweather. Advertisement
?Cotto, I?m not taking anything away from him, he?s a great fighter,? Muhammad explained. ?But Floyd, I?ve seen him work out every day in this camp. I was there every day and I was watching him work and he puts it in. I respect Cotto but I don?t think he puts it in the way Floyd puts it in day in and day out.?
Muhammad also had a notable run with light-heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, who last weekend again claimed the WBC belt with a majority-decision over living legend Bernard Hopkins in Atlantic City. While training Dawson, Muhammad had long since been seeking a fight with Hopkins and offered up his thoughts on Chad?s victory.
?I thought that Bernard was using all his vast experience just to survive,? Muhammad explained. ?To me, it looked like he didn?t want to fight. He just used a lot of trickery, head-butts, and the whole nine yards. He took Chad out of his game a few times. Bernard made Chad fight his fight, that?s all he did. And it wasn?t that good.?
Muhammad was present at the nearby Hard Rock Hotel and Casino last night as Ishe Smith carved out a 4th round TKO over Ayi Bruce and he is eyeing Badou Jack?s May 11th return against undefeated Columbian Alexander Brand at the Texas Station Casino.
