At the post-fight press conference following his grueling victory over Miguel Cotto, Floyd Mayweather addressed the possibility of a fight with Filipino icon Manny Pacquiao in the future. Having come away with some bumps and bruises from his battle with Cotto, Mayweather vented a bit of frustration towards the media for being tricked into what is really taking place behind the scenes.
?I?m tired of the media being fooled,? Mayweather stated. ?When you guys were watching Face Off with me and Cotto and I responded on the Pacquiao situation. What they do is, they chop and paste interviews like they want to do it. The fans and the people don?t understand this. They only show what they want to show.?
In Mayweather?s eyes, the blame lies solely with Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao.
?The truth is, Bob Arum is not going to let the fight happen,? Mayweather stated. ?It?s not on me. I went to Pacquiao and I offered him forty-million dollars. I called him direct and I offered him forty-million dollars. He turned me down. He basically said 50/50. How can you ask for 50/50 when he?s not doing the same numbers that I?m doing? If you go back and read the article, he said he would do it for less. It?s just been a problem trying to make this fight.?
Only when Pacquiao breaks ties with Arum can such a proposition be entertained, according to Mayweather.
?Once he?s free from Bob Arum, will the fight happen? Absolutely. But as of right now, it?s not going to happen. Bob Arum is worried about making money. He?s not worried too much about the fight.?
