At just twenty-one years of age, it?s hard to tell just how far Saul Alvarez can take his professional career. But last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico native showed definite promise in defending his WBC junior middleweight belt against a very determined Shane Mosley.
The buzz on the 40-year old Mosley may have died down a bit over the past few years but on Saturday night the former three-division champion definitely came to fight, showing pockets of offensive tenacity and he did his best to bang Alvarez on the inside with ripping shots. To his credit, ?Canelo? would take everything that was thrown his way and returned fire willingly, putting a definite imprint on the fight.
After twelve rounds, scores of 119-109 twice and 118-110 were read in Alvarez?s favor, as he improves his record to 40-0 with 29 knockouts and eyes a bright future, while even calling out the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Miguel Cotto, and Manny Pacquiao afterwards. Alvarez is next slated for a September 15th return in Vegas, possibly against contender James Kirkland.
