” I’m proud to be one of only a few fighters in history to retire undefeated,” said Joe Calzaghe. There are some elite boxers that have never tasted defeat. Likewise, it takes a combination of talent, skill, determination and sometimes luck to remain unbeaten in boxing. Therefore, who are the top 5 best active undefeated boxers?
5. Saul Alvarez
Most 15 year old guys are freshmen in high school. But, Saul Alvarez at 15 was starting his professional fighting career. He at 21 years old is already a superstar in Mexico and one of the best junior middleweight boxers in the world.
Alvarez has a boxing record of 39 wins and no defeats. He does not look like a Mexican because of his red hair. However, he fights with a ferocious fighting style that Mexican fans love. And he is a talented fighter with a very bright future.
4. Timothy Bradley
Timothy Bradley has an old school fighter’s mentality. Besides, he has a hardcore work ethic. And he fights with a very aggressive and intense fighting style. Bradley rather go out on his shield then just go into survival mode during a boxing match.
Bradley has a record of 28 wins and no losses. He is preparing for the biggest fight of his career against Manny Pacquiao on June 9th. He is going to try to use his fast hands and sharp counterpunching skills to pull of the upset against Pacquiao.
He is confident that he can win.”He’s beatable. After I take care of Pacquiao I’m going to take care of Floyd Mayweather next,” said Bradley.
3. Lucian Bute
Lucian Bute is unknown by most sports fans in America. However, he is a superstar in Canada. His fights in Montreal and Quebec draw sellout crowds. The Romanian-born Bute is also a classy fighter that conducts himself in a professional manner.
Bute is the best super middleweight boxer in the world not named Andre Ward. He throws vicious body punches, dazzling combinations and he has impressive punching power.
It is ridiculous that he was left out of the Super Six tournament. Yet, he will get his opportunity to show his fighting skills against his best opponent to date Carl Froch on May 26th.
2. Andre Ward
Andre Ward does not fit boxer stereotypes. He is a humble, classy and intelligent fighter. Above all else, Ward is a winner. He had a brillant amateur career and he won a Gold Medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics. And Ward is unbeaten in his professional career with 25 wins.
Ward showed that he is the best super middleweight boxer in the world by winning the Super Six tournament last year. He is a chameleon boxer and he is great at adjusting to the fighting style of his opponent. Ward is also a deceptively strong fighter that can box on the inside and the outside.
1. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. has remained undefeated after 42 fights because of his elite talent and boxing skills. He is a cerebral fighter that is great at figuring out his opponent’s style. He frustrates his opponents because of his great defensive skills, hand speed, reflexes and timing.
Mayweather is the best pure boxer of his generation and he is a surefire hall of famer. However, he has avoided some of the best fighters of his generation. So his boxing career is tainted because of his refusal to fight the best. And it will haunt his legacy forever if he doesn’t fight Pacquiao.
