Pacquiao can’t go into training once elected as governor of Sarangani – Arum

Two greatest hits of 2012’s first quarter:

1. Pacquiao at the ‘Devils Golf Course’ with Mayweather

2. Pacquiao rising to a higher level, nearly becoming like Howard Cosell

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Top Rank Godfather Robert “Bob” Arum remains hopeful that Manny Pacquiao will continue to box even after his scheduled fight this summer. But, for sure, it’s going to be not for long.

“Yeah, it’s one thing to be a congressman and continue fighting ; it’s another thing when you are a governor because you have executive responsibilities and you can’t go into training camp,” says Arum about Pacquiao’s prospect of continuing boxing when he gets elected as governor of Sarangani in May 2013 elections of the Philippines, during an exclusive interview with Examiner.com. “Unlike his current role as congressman of Sarangani, he must be serious about duties in the local level as governor which I believe he can do well.”

“He must run his province.”

Arum believes Pacquiao, whom he promotes, will only have two more fights left after his scheduled bout against undefeated light welterweight champion, Timothy Bradley, this June 9 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“He never told me that this June 9 will be his last fight. Definitely, I believe June fight will not be Pacquiao’s last fight and I am not going to sell this fight as his last fight just to drum up business. I don’t know it could be his last fight. But, I am not going to represent that this is his last fight.”

“If Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is not available to fight Pacquiao this November, then we’ll do the Pacquiao-Marquez fight,” Arum adds.

Arum continues: “Manny (Pacquiao) may have one more fight in early Spring just before the May 2013 Elections of the Philippines.”
