Mexico City – Legendary Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1), now nearing 39, primes up his ring intelligence and physiological might at the famous Romanza Gym, owned by his famous trainer Ignacio Beristain, as faces 31-year old Ukrainean champion Sergey Fedchenko (30-1-0), for the interim WBO light welterweight at 140 pounds, this Saturday, April 14 at New Mexico City Arena in Mexico City. Fedchenko has only fought once outside of Ukraine and that was in Germany against Laszlo Fazekas last February. His lone loss was against Kaizer Mabuza in 2009 via majority decision.
Marquez is seen 3-to-1 to win this fight.
While Marquez is trying hard to sell his fight against Fedchenko, he looks forward as well to fighting another unknown opponent on July 14 at the Cowboy Stadium in Texas before he faces his longtime nemesis, Manny Pacquiao hopefully in November. Top Rank Godfather Robert “Bob” Arum, now co-promoter Marquez, insists that light welterweight contender and undefeated Mercito Gesta (24-0-1) is the likely opponent of Marquez on July 14, though agreement has not been formally reached between both parties.
Gesta, at this time, is knocking out some hours at the Top Rank’s Gym in Las Vegas, to prepare against Oscar Cuero (15-7-1) this Saturday, April 14, at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Arum says: “If it happens Gesta-Marquez fight materializes and if Gesta disposes Marquez, then I would say goodbye to a Marquez fight with Pacquiao. Marquez has to win these two fights.”
