MANILA, Philippines ? Admitting that he is a little queasy with Manny Pacquiao?s actions the past few weeks, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum said on Tuesday that while the boxing star appears to be getting ?consumed? by his new-found belief in the Bible, he expects him to revert to his old ways when he reports for training camp.
?I am worried a bit because these are the things you don?t say when preparing for a fight,? said Arum, citing a story that broke out on Monday regarding Pacquiao?s retirement that should happen sooner rather than later after a supposed conversation with God in a dream.
Pacquiao is set to face unbeaten Tim Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and the fighter himself made it clear that he will head to Baguio City next month for the first phase of his training.
Pacquiao didn?t say if the Bradley bout will be his last as Arum is lining up at least three fights, one this November and two more in 2013.
The last time Pacquiao and Arum huddled together was in New York last month, the Top Rank big boss said he ?got the impression? that he will still fight in 2013.
?Manny will retire in (the end of) 2013,? said Arum, sounding anxious about Pacquiao?s latest statements that he even asked this reporter about his thoughts about Pacquiao?s mysterious ways.
Still, Arum believes the mood will change as soon as Pacquiao starts doing his roadwork, begins wrapping his furious fists and lacing them up with gloves.
As Pacquiao continues to quote Biblical verses, Bradley has began sweating it out in preparation for the start of his buildup in April, according to his manager Cameron Dunkin.
?He hasn?t started (training) but he?s running?keeping his weight in check,? said Dunkin.
