Filipino boxers who want to make it big in the international arena should try their luck in the United States.
An American promoter who has taken notice of the Filipino talent says the trailblazing achievement of Many Pacquiao in the United States has opened the door for other Filipino boxers.
“Filipino boxers are very marketable in the US,” said Andew Stein during a recent press conference.
Tie up
Stein recently established the Stein Global Sports and Entertainment to accommodate the dreams Filipino fighters, giving them a chance to fight and make big money in the US.
After tying up with Rex “Wakee” Salud, Stein has linked up with Sammy Gello-ani and the two promoters put up last Sunday’s Sinulog Slambang at the Gaisano Country Mall.
The Sunday card overwhelmed Stein, who right away decided to bring ALA Boy Robert Allanic to the US to train for three months at Freddie Roach’s Wild Card Gym.
Allanic scored two knockdowns for a unanimous decision win over Nonoy Deveilleres in the card.
“The ALA Gym has the best facilities, even better than some gyms in the US, that includes the Wild Card Gym. And I believe their kids are very competitive – much more competitive than the Mexican boxers,” said Stein.
“Filipino boxers are naturally gifted boxers. All they need is a good training, good sparring. I can assist them in the US, get them a fight since I believe it’s their destiny to make a good living in the US.”
High-tech
Stein also has a “high-tech” to help local trainers.
“Since it will be very costly to bring trainers to the US, I have proposed to Sammy that we would go high-tech like video teleconferencing,” he said.
“We’ll have Freddie Roach instructing trainers what to do through video conference while he can also watch boxers during trainings and could tell them what to do through this medium.”
