Lewkowicz vows to help ALA vs. Mexican agent

SAMPSON Lewkowicz has promised to help out ALA Promotions in their quest to catch the perpetrator of the Genaro Garcia debacle last week.

?I give my full support to the good people of ALA Boxing and my friend Antonio Aldeguer,? said the international matchmaker and promoter yesterday.

ALA Promotions was tricked by Mexican agent Victor Hugo Correa, who sent the wrong Genaro Garcia to the Philippines to face Rey ?Boom-Boom? Bautista. ALA Promotions negotiated and paid for Genaro ?Poblanito? Garcia, a three-time world title challenger with a 38-8 record, but instead Correa sent a different boxer with the same name who had a hideous 10-11 slate.

?They gave their trust to the wrong people,? said Lewkowicz.

Lewkowicz said that he will fly to Mexico and meet with World Boxing Council president Don Jose Sulaiman and help out ALA Promotions with their dilemma.

?He (Correa) did wrong to boxing and he should pay a high price,? he said. ?I?ll make sure he gets punished harshly and that this will never happen again. It?s a shameful act.?

Lewkowicz, who has closely worked with ALA Promotions, praised ALA Promotions on how they responded to the awkward circumstance last Saturday, when the Cebu-based promotional outfit decided to hold the boxing promotion free to the public and refunded the sold tickets.

?They did everything by the book. I congratulate them for that,? said Lewkowicz.

Aside from a forgettable main event between Bautista and the patsy Garcia in ALA Promotions ?Pinoy Pride 12,? the boxing show had enjoyable fights.
