LOS ANGELES—All roads lead to Las Vegas this weekend as far as politicians and celebrities from the Philippines are concerned.
Heading the list of VIPs attending Saturday night’s super-featherweight war between Manny Pacquiao and Erik Morales is First Gentleman Mike Arroyo, who will be at ringside for the third straight time the Filipino ring hero climbs the ring. Mr. Arroyo was also present during the first fight between Pacquiao and Morales at the MGM Grand and was also here when Pacquiao dismantled Hector Velazquez at the Staples Center.
Apart from Mr. Arroyo, arguably the Philippines’ top sports patron, there are also reports emanating from within Pacquiao’s camp that Sen. Lito Lapid would also be there in Sin City to show his support.
Bacolod Rep. Monico Puentevella is also arriving here and several other congressmen, provincial governors and mayors.
Not to be outdone is Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairman Bayani Fernando, who is tagging along several Metro Manila mayors to Nevada following a seminar in Vancouver, Canada. (NG)
