TO MANNY Pacquiao, there won’t be another defeat to Erik Morales.
Not with his pride at stake, and certainly not with his adoring countrymen rallying behind their champion.
“I don’t know how I’m going to beat him, but I will win,” Pacquiao told boxing website Fightnews.com at the end of his media workout Thursday at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, California.
The Filipino warrior is nearing the culmination of his deep training for the January 21 super featherweight rematch with the Mexican Morales at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
It was the first time his American trainer, Freddie Roach, has allowed the media to take a glimpse of Pacquiao during training. What the journalists saw impressed them.
Pacquiao, the pride and joy of General Santos City, was superb in his 70-minute practice, throwing hard punches as he worked the mitts with Roach, according to Fightnews.com.
“He didn’t see the best of me last time, but rest assured he’ll see the best of me this time,” Pacquiao said.
When Pacquiao and Morales fought for the first time in March last year, the Mexican pounded out a unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
But Pacquiao promised a different result this time.
“I want to win and I think I’m going to win,” Pacquiao said, realizing fully well that he will not be fighting for himself alone but for the entire Filipino nation come fight night.
