Ontario – Starved for fistic action boxing fans packed a cozy arena inside the Double Tree Hotel like a pack of sardines. They were not disappointed.
In the main event of the evening rising welterweight Artemio?? The King? Reyes thrilled fans by dropping overweight veteran from Mexico, Victor Correa four times in route to a first round knock out. After Reyes floored Correa for the fourth time with a straight right hand in the face referee pat Russell had seen enough and waved off the contest. The official time of the stoppage was 2:51 of the very first round.
?I am happy I got a knock out,? said Reyes:? I came to fight. He came to fight and we ended it early.? I am not sure if Mexico?s veteran Victor Hugo Correa (12-5,8KO?S) came to fight since he tipped the scales nine pounds over contracted weight limit of 147 pounds and looked like he didn?t have enough time to go to the gym.
?His weight didn?t matter to me exclaimed Reyes who resides near by in Colton:? I was ready to come out and put on a performance.?
But the fight that really stole the show and had fans off their seats and hollering was a six round war in a super bantamweight division between Richard? Terminator? Contreras from Riverside, California and a Mexican veteran, Daniel Quevedo.
Young knock out artist from Riverside, full of piss and vinegar came out firing with murderous intent in every single punch. It left him open for counter shots from experienced veteran, Quevedo who was punching back blow for blow and landed one extra right hand after the bell that separated young Contreras form his senses. The corner men of Contreras had to come into the ring in between rounds to collect their charge, because he didn?t know where he was. Meanwhile referee Jerry Cantu was in the other corner deducting a point from Quevedo for a late hit. It seemed like it would be a moot point early in the second, because Contreras didn?t have enough time to recover and still seemed to be out of it. Veteran from Mexico took full advantage of the situation and mounted a violent assault. Left hook right hand dropped Contreras early in the second for an official knock down. Miraculously, young buck managed to survive the round and came back strong trapping his opponent against the ropes several times and going hard to the body in the third. Still after three gory rounds, I felt this could not go on for three more, but it did.
One thing that really helped young Contreras was that he went to the body hard every chance he got. They went toe to toe with an intermittent success till the final bell, but the steam was out of the punches of Quevedo and Richard Contreras kept coming on. Fittingly the brawl ended up in a draw. Judge David Denkin scored the contest 57-55 for Richard Contreras (9-0-1,8KO); overruled by Max De Luca and Sergio Caiz who both scored it 56-56 for a majority draw .The real winners were the fans. In other action undefeated light feather weight Efrain Esquivias Jr (16-0,9KO?S) out fought Mexican veteran Adolfo Landeros (20-23-2) over eight action packed rounds. All three judges had Esquivias winning convincingly 80-72 and 78-74 twice.
Eight rounds welterweight scrap between East LA?s Aaron Martinez and San Diego?s Dashon Johnson ended prematurely early in the eighth due to an injury sustained by Martinez caused by accidental head butt. The fight featured a knock down and a throw down and plenty of back and forth action and ended in a split decision victory for Martinez (16-1-1,3KO?S). Judge Caiz awarded the fight for Johnson 77-75 that scored both knock down and a throw down. Judge de Luca scored the fight for Martinez 77-75and deciding Judge David Denkin had it 78-73 for Martinez.
San Fernando?s Rigoberto Flores (3-1,3KO?) did not need judges; he took matters in his own hand and destroyed junior welterweight, Alonzo Loess (1-4-1) in the very first round. The time of the stoppage was 1:30.
In lady?s action, undefeated Jr. flyweight Sindy Amador(7-0,1KO?S continued her winning ways with an action packed four round unanimous decision over Gloria Salas(3-77-1) All three judges scored the fight in favor of Amador 39-37.
Skill beat will in an opening middleweight four round fray when Luis Rose scored a split decision victory of d?buting Eric Prado.
