Pacquiao, 3 other RP pugs meet in LA

THE WILD Card Gym in Los Angeles looked like a Filipino household yesterday when four of the country’s finest fighters, all honing up under renowned trainer Freddie Roach, converged there for the first time.

Z “The Dream” Gorres and Czar Amonsot, both slated to see action on Feb. 3, arrived at the gym around 10:30 yesterday morning together with their manager Tony Aldeguer and Filipino trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor.

Business agent Michael Koncz was also with the group.

Roach greeted and welcomed the group along with physical conditioning coach Justin Fortune, who knew Gorres from his previous stint at the gym a year ago.

As the two trained, Filipino-American Brian Viloria, the reigning World Boxing Council light flyweight champion, arrived with his father and greeted Gorres and Amonsot.

At the end of their training session, Filipino champion Manny Paquiao arrived looking fit and ready for his Jan. 21 rematch with Mexican hero Erik Morales.

Gorres and Amonsot worked out for the first time at Wild Card since arriving last Dec. 27.

After a 15-minute warm-up, Gorres and Amonsot immediately plunged into action, hitting the mitts for four rounds. Roach handled Gorres, while Villamor took care of Amonsot.

A series of heavy bag drills was followed by speed workout where Gorres and Amonsot did two rounds each on the double end ball and speed ball. Abdominal sit-ups was the final phase of their training for the day preparatory for their sparing sessions slated today.
