ABS-CBN and cable channel Solar Sports recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to grant ABS-CBN exclusive free-TV rights to broadcast the much-anticipated rematch between Filipino fighter Manny Pacquiao and Mexican Erik Morales.
The MOA was signed by top executives from both ABS-CBN and Solar, namely, Peter Chanliong, Chief Operating Officer, Solar Sports; Luis F. Alejandro, President and COO, ABS-CBN; William Tieng, Chairman, Solar Sports; Eugenio Lopez III, President and CEO, ABS-CBN; Wilson Tieng, President and CEO, Solar Sports and Peter A. Musngi, Vice President for Sports, ABS-CBN.
The match, promoted worldwide as “The Battle,” will be aired on ABS-CBN as a simultaneous feed with Solar Sports, and is considered by many fight fans to be a “grudge match” between Pacquiao and Morales, to whom Pacquiao lost the WBC Internations Super Featherweight title in March 2005.
With this service, ABS-CBN allows viewers – even those without access to cable – to view what will surely be another defining moment for Philippine sports. The match airs simultaneously on ABS-CBN and Solar Sports on January 22. (Press release)
