Manny Pacquiao can’t just go wrong by following celebrated Harvard lawyer and Top Rank Godfather Robert “Bob” Arum’s prescription, so they say, no mater how toxic its side effects would bring which may have already been causing encephalopathy to the boxing minds. And for Arum, it’s the safest order of the era for Pacquiao’s complex affairs, affecting his business, showbiz and politics, however injurious it is to the latter’s standing before his rallying, marching sycophants and less informed supporters en masse.
But, the boxing public may have been too intoxicated with Pacquiao’s playing games with Arum over counter-puncher best Floyd Mayweather, Jr.’s fanfare, especially after his non-convincing victory over Azteca’s brilliant counter-puncher, Juan Manuel Marquez last Fall.
You see, Arum knows Pacquiao is allergic to effective counter-punchers. That’s why he has prescribed a remedial intervention based on what he believes as effective counter-measure to neutralize Mayweather’s virulence. Mayweather would be under Arum’s isolation protocol, at least in these days before another Fall to come, as in November.
One thing though while Mayweather hovered quietly above Pacmania just before his 90-day jail time was reset to begin on June 1, Pacquiao began brandishing his clout with the Philippine media saying he is “willing to fight Mayweather even with a smaller share so long as the fight will happen”.
And just when Judge Melissa Saragosa of Nevada, on a sweeping power-hold, granted Mayweather’s appeal thereby moving the starting date of his jail term to June 1, Pacquiao changed his gear as Mayweather seized the chance for a May 5 fight and declared valiantly via his official tweeter account, stating: “”Manny Pacquiao, I’m calling you out. Let’s fight May 5th and give the world what they want to see. My Jail Sentence was pushed back because the date was locked in. Step up Punk.” Now, Pacquiao wanted not a smaller share but 50-50 split. Worse, he rejects the $ 40 million fixed offer as guaranteed purse from Mayweather.
