Antonio Margarito not done?- I?m hearing that Antonio Margarito is not ready to leave the sport behind. Margarito will have a close eye (no pun intended) on the February 4th fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Marco Antonio Rubio. Call me crazy, but I feel that a Chavez Jr./ Margarito fight would be a very entertaining scrap, especially in Mexico. No fight doctor is going to stop the fight out there.
What?s next for Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr.?- More than likely, Miguel Cotto will get the call to face Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. will face Saul ??Canelo?? Alvarez. Both camps of Mayweather and Pacquiao, are due to make an announcement sometime this week. Rumor has it that Cotto is also being looked at to face Floyd for Floyd?s Cinco De Mayo date at the MGM Grand. But since Floyd?s state of mind has always been, low risk, high reward, Floyd and his team may be looking at raw Mexican fighter Canelo Alvarez to fit the bill on Cinco De Mayo weekend. If Cotto does get the call to face Pacquiao, it will give Cotto the chance to avenge both of his losses, first to Margarito and now against Pacquiao.
Ortiz/Berto 2- Both of these fighters are out to prove that it is their time to shine. Both fighters want to let it be known that once Mayweather and Pacquiao retire, that it will be one of them to take over and be the new name at the top of the 147 pound division. Yes, it is very much true that both fighters are flawed, but that is exactly what makes them exciting to see. Both fighters have a very fan friendly style, either one of these fighters have the power to end it all with one single punch. So come out to Las Vegas on February 11th at the MGM Grand to witness these two young fighters go hard at one another from start to finish. It?s going to be a shootout, who shall run out of bullets first?
Rigondeaux too much for Ramos- When I first laid eyes on Guillermo Rigondeaux back when he was doing his thing in the Olympic games, I remember being in complete awe of Rigondeaux?s boxing skills. Many years later, and I am still very much in awe of Rigo. This past Saturday night, Rigo won a junior featherweight title strap by knocking out Rico Ramos in the 6th round. Ramos to me just never looked comfortable in there with Rigo, Rigo is very poised, calm, and never really allows his opponents to get into their groove. Will the great Nonito Donaire be next on the menu for Rigo? Only time will tell, Donaire currently has a date with Wilfredo Vasquez Jr. on February 4th. Rigo vs. Donaire would without a doubt be a chess match like no other.
King Gabe Rosado smashes Karass- Rosado this past weekend became the first fighter to stop the tough as nails, Jesus Soto Karass. Rosado looked very sharp as he landed bombs at will. Referee, Smoger stepped in and stopped the fight in the fifth round. If I?m Rosado, I would take aim at James Kirkland next. As for Karass, I would more than likely advise him to either get with an A plus nutritionist or simply just retire. Karass seems to have trouble making 147 and he just is not strong enough to compete with the fighters at 154. Nutrition is key.
