If Manny Pacquiao is willing to face Miguel Cotto then why not Sergio Martinez? Sergio’s performances have been way better than Cotto. Why would Pacquiao want to face a fighter he “dominated” already? Most people do rematches because of controversy or if it was a very close split decision or draw. Not only did Pacquiao beat the flat footed Cotto all those rounds but even the ref stopped the beating in the 12th round. To even the most non boxing related fan, this just does not make any sense whatsoever. YOu now have to ask what about Sergio Martinez he has been calling you out for 1 1/2 yrs now with no response.
If you say it is because he is a jr middleweight, then you have to say the same for Cotto. Pacquiao you also fought Oscar De La Hoya, Cotto, and Margarito who were really jr middleweights. Sergio even told you on numerous occasions that he was even willing to come down to 150lbs for the catchweight king. Still no response. Nobody wants to see a recylced fight. Lou DiBella and Bob Arum have been able to come to terms in alot of fights and I don’t see this one being any different. Sergio said he is even willing to take less money, just as long as he can fight you.
So we must go back to the main problem since day one. Is it Manny Pacquiao that does not want to fight him or is it Bob Arum. Styles makes fight and there are alot of fans that really think Pacquiao can be dethroned by Sergio Martinez. Sergio said himself he does not like going up to middleweight because he really isn’t one. We do have to credit him, because if he cannot get “good” quality fights at his weight, he does move up even though he is often the smaller one and takes on whatever middleweight there is. Do you remember the Kelly Pavilik fight? Kelly had to come in at 170lbs after the weigh in. Sergio was not worried about the weight difference. If it makes you feel comfortable, put a clause in the contract that Sergio cannot weigh in more than 155lbs come fight night. I’m sure he would jump at the oppurtunity. Just ask him.
