Ever since his upset loss to Jorge Arce this past May, Puerto Rico?s Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. has flown under the radar a bit.
Vazquez was riding high heading into that clash but despite a strong start he was worn down over the second half of the fight and saw referee Joe Cortez stop the action in the 12th round in the face of an onrushing Arce. With his undefeated record now out the window and several people doubting him, Vazquez has suddenly found himself with the perfect opportunity to turn the tables and reenergize his career.
On February 4th, Vazquez will face off with bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire in an HBO-televised showcase airing from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Donaire is regarded as one of the top four or five fighters in the sport and while some feel that the fight will serve as a coronation for his rise to the junior featherweight class, Vazquez surely has other plans.
Last night our friends at BoxingScene.com got their hands on some recent training picture of Vazquez and you can tell instantly just how pristine of a conditioning the 27-year old is in.
Anyone who feels that Donaire will be in for a walk in the park is likely mistaken.
