Casting a shadow of a doubt is not on the mind of Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero, as he speaks about how he will beat Floyd Mayweather, if he ever gets him in the ring on May 5. Known as “The Ghost,” he swiftly moved up to the lightweight division in April 2010 to beat Robert Arietta and again moved up to junior welterweight taking on Joel Casamayor, winning a ten round unanimous decision. Since he beat Michael Katsidis last April, he has not fought due to a torn rotator cuff tendon in his left shoulder. However he is back in strong health, and with that, he brings strong talk of beating Floyd Mayweather. Guerrero told the L.A. Times today, “I’m going to shock the world and beat Mayweather.” Following that confident statement, he also said, “I know people want to see Pacquiao, but if that fight can’t happen, I’m going to shock the world and beat Mayweather.”
He is currently being considered for this fight, and according to Raymond Makarian of www.thesweetscience.com, negotiations for Mayweather vs. Guerrero are in the final stages. Apparently he would have no concern moving up to welterweight as he has shown the ability to move up in weight smoothly before. With a record (29-1-1, 18 KOs), he feels that he is in an excellent position to present himself as a worthy opponent to Mayweather. In a recent interview on DaTruthBoxing radio show he said, “I look at things from a psychological aspect also, and the way I see Floyd, like the way he acts and talks to people, he’s a very insecure person. He is more insecure than most and I’m a student of the game, and if I get this fight May 5th I can?t wait to see how Floyd is going react in the press conference.”
The welterweight division is wide open. There are many young, up and coming contenders who are ready and waiting to take the top spot. Robert Guerrero is among the young contenders, who are looking to make their mark.
Floyd Mayweather vs.Manny Pacquiao on 5th May is not waiting in the wings anymore. Manny Pacquiao is currently deciding between Lamont Peterson, Miguel Cotto, Juan Marquez and Timothy Bradley. Floyd Mayweather has continued to stick by his guns by wanting Manny Pacquiao to agree to Olympic style drug testing. After it appeared as though that issue was taken care of, now we?re faced with yet another obstacle. With Arum presenting more names for Manny Pacquiao and none of them being Floyd Mayweather, it’s becoming a strong possibility that it just may be Robert Guerrero for Mayweather on May 5. Pacquiao has already indicated that he still wants Mayweather. He is scheduled to meet with promoter Bob Arum today in the Philippinesand discuss over the next few days who his next opponent will be. It appears as though the ball is in Manny Pacquiao?s court now and Robert Guerrro?s once in a lifetime opportunity will be contingent upon Pacquiao?s decision this week.
