Golden Boy himself, Oscar De La Hoya promised boxing fans good competitive match ups in 2012. So far so good; their first show of the year at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio, California featured exciting and highly competitive bouts that included two undefeated lightweights, Figueroa and Perez and another highly entertaining and competitive match up between unbeaten rising prospect, Luis Ramos Jr and young veteran, Raymundo Beltran. Great way to begin a boxing season in 2012. However, according to a powerful promoter another super power of boxing, Top Rank and it’s head, Bob Arum are not cooperating.
The only cooperation every one in boxing would like to see is in regards to putting together much anticipated and much talked about mega showdown between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, especially in lieu of the fact that Floyd’s calendar suddenly got cleared from having to serve 90 days in jail.
” Apparently Arum is going to the Philippines to see who Manny Pacquiao wants to fight,” stated De La Hoya yesterday via his twitter :” Who do you think Bob will pick, mean Pacquiao?” Advertisement
Last week unbeaten super star Floyd Mayweather Jr. got an extension on serving his 90 day sentence till June 1st, so that he can fulfill another commitment, a major fight on May 5th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Would Manny Pacquiao be his opponent? Not according to reports by Manilla Bulletin who published on Sunday that Hall Of Fame promoter, Bob Arum said that staging Pacquiao- Mayweather mega showdown at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on May 5th makes no sense. Arum is considering building 45 thousand seat stadium in Las Vegas to maximize earning a live gate potential, which obviously could not be finished in time to accommodate May 5th date.
If you are frustrated by this development you are not alone.” Wow. I’m in shock,” continued De La Hoya via twitter:” Did you hear that Dan Rafael blames Bob Arum for the big fight not happening.” Apparently Dan Rafael is not the only sports writer or fight fan who feels that way. Boxing fans around the world are hoping that Manny Pacquiao will force Arum’s hand to make the fight.
” Back when I had a promoter I would say who I wanted to fight,” continued De La Hoya, who incidentally used to be promoted by Bob Arum:” Isn’t Bob Arum saying it’s Pacquiao’s choice? I hope he picks Mayweather.” And so do millions of fans around the world.
” You guys have to speak out and demand this fight,” continued De La Hoya today:” So you guys understand why I am bashing Bob for not wanting to make fights happen on twitter is because we have tried over and over again and he doesn’t even have the courtesy to call back. People who don’t want to acknowledge that Arum is trying to take boxing down with him are just plain ignorant.”
