Roach trains Gorres, Amonsot

TOP-RANKED Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation super flyweight Z Gorres and WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight king Cezar Amonsot start their rigid training today under ace trainer Freddie Roach at the American’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles.

Filipino trainer Edito “Ala” Villamor, in a message to Philboxing.com, said Gorres and Amonsot will finally be going through serious gym training after doing mostly jogging, skipping rope and shadow-boxing since their arrival last December 27.

“Despite the holiday season where parties and foods were in abundance, Gorres and Amonsot strictly adhered to their disciplined diet by avoiding sweet and fatty foods to maintain their training weights,” Villamor told Philboxing.com.

There is a strong possibility that Samuel Lopez, who is a prot?g? of Guilty Promotions and earlier lined up to face Gorres, may not be fighting the Filipino as the promoter has not confirmed their encounter.

But Amonsot’s date with Arturo Quintero has already been decided.

Gorres and Amonsot are scheduled to spar tomorrow against separate boxers, although the bigger Amonsot will most likely not spar with Manny Pacquiao because of his southpaw stance.

Pacquiao is also training at the Wild Card gym for his rematch on Jan. 21 with Morales, who is a right-hander.

Gorres and Amonsot will train two weeks at the Wild Card gym and then will motor to Las Vegas for the last phase of their training for their fight on February 3.

While in Las Vegas, former JMP trainer Tony Martin will play host to the fighters.
