After making ten successful defenses of his IBF Middleweight title, “The Ring” ranked him #14 in 2009 and Yahoo Sports ranked him 8th in March 2010. With 35 fights and 26 of those won by knockout, we can safely say that one of his best qualities is brutally knocking his opponents out. He’s suffered 3 loses, however these have not caused any serious concern to his boxing career. There were some critics though after his lopsided Super Six loss to Andre Ward in May and Abraham needed a convincing showing tonight to remain relevant in the division.
This fight took place at Baden Arena in Offenburg, Germany, in front of a sold out crowd. Abraham showed us how good he was on his home turf. His opponent from South America, Argentinian Pablo Oscar Natalio Farias, came into the fight with a 19-1 record with 11 knock outs, and even though he has less experience it didn?t mean that he wouldn?t bring some strong thrill with him. He’s a very young and tough character at only 23 years old and brings hard punches and lasting endurance with him.
Tonight we saw Arthur Abraham deal with Pablo Farias very well and achieve his main aim, a knockout win against the Argentinean in round 5. He had immense power and caused two knockdowns. The capacity crowd was very pleased and enjoyed some fireworks on the runway.
Round 1 – Farias confidently threw punches and Abraham was holding his defense very tight. Abraham?s posture was very good and sturdy as his double left jabs landed onto Farias.
Round 2 – A sudden outburst came from Abraham in this round as he gave some tactical body shots. Farias pushed forward and got a punch through and Abraham gave him a strong left hook.
