Lamont Peterson spoils Amir Khan?s future plans- Before this fight went down, rumor had it that Amir Khan, (behind Pacquiao of course) would be the front runner to win the jackpot and land a date with Money Mayweather come May 2012. Lamont Peterson had different plans in mind, very different plans. In my prediction leading up to this bout, I felt that Khan would win the clash against Peterson by simply being too much inside and out. I also went on to add that both fighters would dig in hard at each other?s mid section. The main thing that stuck out in my prediction was when I mentioned that Peterson would be forced to fight outside of what he trained for. And that is exactly what it came down to, Peterson realized that he could not box with Khan, so Peterson then left the softness on the stool and then turned into the predator. Khan did not expect for Peterson the Predator to emerge so when the heat got turned up, Khan froze up like Ted Williams. It must also be noted that Khan did not also expect for referee Joseph Cooper, to step in and turn into John Stockton with assist after assist. I personally had it for Khan 7 rounds to 5 with a 113-112 score. Were there rounds that could have gone either way? Yes, sure there were, but for Khan to lose his title in the manner in which he did was very foul. The referee treated Khan like a convict and kept most of his attention on Khan, by doing so, the referee totally ignored the fact that Peterson was resting his forearm on Khans throat as Peterson landed rights on Khan. Was Khan fighting clean? No, he wasn?t, but Peterson himself was not playing by the rules either. Well now on to the immediate rematch, and I for one would hope that Freddie Roach corrects Khan?s main flaw, and this is that he must not allow Khan or any of his fighters to lean on the ropes to steal some breaths. All of Roach?s fighters do this, and for the life of me, I can?t understand why Roach has not corrected this. Peterson displayed great heart and that heart may have willed it for him to step in and make the kind of statement that he made. Major props to both fighters for putting on a great fight. Peterson improves to 30-1-1 and is the new WBA and IBF 140 pound champion. Amir Khan falls to 26-2 and now finds himself on the outside looking in.
And the Super 6, Super middleweight champion is..- On December 17th, on Showtime Live from Atlantic City, New Jersey, Andre Ward (24-0) will face the (28-1) Carl Froch to put an end to this tournament that began over 2 years ago. It is going to be a war of wills and skills. Andre Ward to me is the most complete fighter in the sport, but Froch has a way of forcing his opponents to lose confidence in themselves. Froch must plant his feet and must not allow for Ward to back him up. Ward is a truth seeker type of fighter himself, Ward can box you from the inside and outside, but Ward is at his very best when he takes his opponent out of his element by taking the gun away from the shooter. The second that Ward takes his opponents weapon away from him, the opponent is then forced to over think the process, the opponent gets frustrated with the thought that they can not excel. And that is the key to beating Ward, you must remain as calm as Ward and stay within your pace and fire when Ward is loading up the pistol. I love Froch and his defiant bravado, but I am picking Andre Ward to win in a 8 rounds to 4 or 7 rounds to 5 toe to toe fashion. It is going to be a great fight.
