On February 19th, Nonito Donaire produced the most significant victory of his career when he stopped Fernando Montiel in under two heats at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A swift counter-left hook would drop Montiel and all but end the fight as Donaire pounced on him after he rose, mauling him along the ropes as referee Russell Mora waived the bout off. Donaire ran around the ring in joy, new holder of the WBC and WBO bantamweight crowns, and his promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, instantly eyed the next logical move.
