Manny Pacquiao vs Miguel Cotto II: Does it Make “Cents” for Top Rank?

Although the Puerto Rican hero feels that his decisive victory closes the chapter on his first professional loss and further vindicates his initial theory of foul play, one ghost remains within the walls of Cotto’s attic.

On November 14th, 2009, top pound-for-pound fighter Manny Pacquiao not only arguably handed the Caguas warrior his first legitimate loss, but also lifted his WBO Welterweight title in the process.

Even though Pacquiao is a future Hall of Famer and a certified all time great fighter, the wound from losing to a pugilist who originally made his professional debut at 106 pounds continues to bleed, due to the endless pride and dignity of the Super WBA Junior Middleweight Champion. Does Miguel Cotto have unfinished business with the eight division world champion?

What is finished is the Puerto Rican fighter’s current promotional agreement with Top Rank.

Should Miguel Cotto decide to reach an accord with Mr. Bob Arum, the idea of a return bout with Manny in 2012 would definitely be entertained.

But, is a Pacquiao vs Cotto rematch the best option for both fighters?

On November 12th, the pound for pound champion Manny Pacquio looked less than stellar in a controversial majority decision victory against all time great Mexican fighter Juan Manuel Marquez in the third installment of their much heralded fight trilogy.
