Silence has never been sweeter or more soothing than it is with the ongoing Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Manny Pacquiao Super Fight negotiations. The relative calm and orderly process means the Fight Too Big To Fail is going to be coming to fruition as early as May of next year. Latest confidence boosting remark comes from Pacquiao via his lawyer, my old sparmate Franklin “Jeng” Gacal, who told Manila Bulletin’s Nick Giongco that the Pinoy Idol has directed that he fight undefeated “Money” next. Pacman also threw out another tasty tidbit, telling ABS-CBN in the Philippines that, contradictory to what his main man Bob Arum told me on Tuesday, Manny is fine with a May rather than a June fight date. Looming below the negotiation surface eivdently is that the nonissues now outnumber the still to be debated deal points. For instance, Mayweather-Pacquiao transpires in May or June. Mayweather-Pacquiao revenue streams get divided even steven, 50-50, completely down the line. The venue is Las Vegas, probably the MGM Grand Garden Arena. There’s no need for any rematch obligation. If this promotion goes through the roof, you can be sure they’ll do one rematch and possibly a threematch before they get done. The tiresome drug testing conditions have been OK’d by both sides which may be something the Mayweather camp was fooled into thinking (guessing?) would never happen. Picayune matters such as who weighs in first, who enters the ring first…I mean, who really cares about such nonsense in a possible $100 million enterprise.
