REIGNING World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight champion Brian Viloria vowed he would do everything to defend his crown against Mexican challenger Giovani Segura today at the Ynares Center in Pasig City Viloria said he intends to hold on to his belt for a long time, ?It?s hard to stay a champion but I?m determined to hold the title for a longer period of time. I?m now taking every fight seriously. And it will start with Giovani because this is a very important fight for me.?
Viloria (29-3-0 with 16 knockouts) revealed that he learned something very important from his 12th round technical KO loss against Colombian Carlos Tamara in January 2010 for the super flyweight crown.
Wiser after the defeat, he bounced back defeating Mexican Omar Soto via split decision and Thai Liempetch Sor Veerapol via seventh round KO to take a shot anew at the WBO flyweight crown.
?I?ve been through a lot and this is a great challenge for me. I want to prove that I have grown as a fighter and we want to show a great fight for the people,? Viloria said.
The Viloria-Segura bout, dubbed ?Island Assault 3? will be broadcasted live starting 10 a.m. today by GMA 7.
