Cotto vs. Margarito- I want to start off by saying that Miguel Cotto the Boriqua Bomber fought a very smart fight against Antonio ?? The Terminator?? Margarito. The Cotto fans can go on and say that Cotto did what he just did to Tony because there was no plaster in them gloves, but that is very silly to say. There for sure was no plaster in Tony?s wraps in this fight and Cotto?s face was still banged up. So then why was Cotto?s face looking much worse after the first fight? Once again, Simply because Cotto fought a much better fight this time around. In the first fight, Cotto would try to steal breaths leaning against the ropes, Thus allowing Tony to find him a lot more. In this fight, Cotto used his legs and would spin out as soon as he felt his back get close to the ropes. Cotto in this fight dictated on where this fight would be taking place, center ring buddy. People can go on and say, well of course Cotto?s face was marked up, that?s because the man was in a fight. Well Cotto was also in a fight against Yuri Foreman and I don?t recall Cotto?s face looking anything like the way it looked like this past Saturday night. Sure, it?s true that Foreman fought Cotto on one leg, but so what, Tony fought Cotto with one eye. Foreman was able to find Cotto a lot more than Tony was able to do and Cotto?s face after 9 rounds with Tony looked like he had gone a full 12 rounds with Tony. Ah, only the fight doctors wouldn?t allow for Tony and Cotto to finish the fight, even though Tony was answering all the questions correctly when being asked how many fingers were being held up. The doctor should have just held up one finger at Tony, the middle one. My point is that Cotto hit Tony with everything, including the kitchen sink and Tony was still throwing punches, even if his eye was about to explode. You can hit Tony with a 4 x 4 with spikes on it and Tony would still be marching forward coming your way. I for one had Cotto up 9 rounds to zero, does that mean that there was no need for 3 more rounds? Absolutely not, anything could have happened in those last 3 rounds. Tony would have for sure come out determined to find a way to find Cotto and things would have turned vicious. Cotto might have knocked out Tony, Cotto might have been able to punch Tony?s eyeball right out of Tony?s socket and made that sucker land right on Arums lap, so many different things could have happened. The fight doctors messed it all up, it was as like smashing your girl hard core, legs spread out, giving her the biz, and then your mom walks in. That?s what I compare that weak stoppage to. The fight doctors robbed us of the climax. Oh well, what?s done is done. If I?m Cotto, I would make this my last masterpiece and call it a career. I would only stay in the game for one more fight if Floyd ??Money?? Mayweather is on the other end. But only if the price is right, if the orange is worth the squeeze. And we all know it will be, because money talks. But first, Cotto must leave Arum and ink a deal with Golden Boy Promotions.
Abner Mares vs. Joseph Agbeko- Mares did his thing by outworking, outhustling, and wanting it more than Agbeko. Agbeko came to fight but he fell short for the simple fact that the bloodied up Mares was out there to prove a point..and that he did.
Anselmo Moreno vs. Vic Darchinyan- Moreno is straight up sweet pea- lite, the man moves and boxes like the great Pernell Whitaker. Moreno may not be as slick and as complete as sweet pea, but he is pretty darn close. Darchinyan tried his hardest, but it wasn?t enough. Darchinyan could not solve the puzzle that laid out in front of him.
This weekend on HBO- Amir Khan vs. Lamont Peterson- I am expecting for the early rounds to be very close, by round 6, Khan will begin to pick Peterson apart and will then force Peterson to fight outside of what he trained for. Look for both fighters to dig hard at each others mid-section. I see this fight going to Khan by unanimous decision, but I would be far from shocked if Khan presses hard late and stops Peterson in front of his home town crowd in the 10th round. Should be an interesting boxing exhibition.
