Jimrex Jaca won his third national title after quickly disposing of veteran slugger Samuel Duran in just the second round of a scheduled 12-round bout for the vacant RP super-featherweight title Friday night at the Maasin City Gym.
Jaca stopped Duran, a veteran of 100 fights, in 2:44 of the second round when referee Tony Pesons stepped in after Jaca connected a series of body shots.
Meanwhile tonight, upcoming boxing sensation Benedict Suico will slug it out anew against Nonong Develleres in the main event of the RWS International boxing promotion “Binukbukay sa Tisa” at the Barangay Tisa Sports Complex.
Fighting in the undercard are Pingping Tepora against wily veteran Sherwin Manatad of Misamis Oriental also for 10 rounds, and Bonnie Maido against Winnie Bartiquil Zamboanga City for six rounds.
The card, which will also have five amateur bouts, is held in connection with the forthcoming fiesta celebration of Barangay Tisa and in cooperation with Barangay Capt. Eddie Cabulao.
Duran, once one of the decorated prizefighters in the country, dropped to the canvas in the first round before squaring it off again with the youthful former OPBF super-bantamweight king.
Jaca sent Duran twice on the seat of his pants in the second round, the last one using a right hook to the chin that forced Pesons to stop the fight as the fighter from Valencia City, Bukidnon was clearly overmatched against the youthful fighter from the Rex “Wakee” Salud Stable.
Undercard
The 130-pound title was Jaca’s third. He once ruled the bantamweight division and the super-bantamweight before moving up to conquer the throne vacated by Bobby Pacquiao last July.
Jaca improved to 24-1-1 win-loss-draw with 11 KO wins, while Duran dropped to 71-27-2 with 35 KOs.
In the other fights, veteran Rey Llagas proved too much for Rey Destriza, while Alex Aroy and Noel Veronque had a technical draw in the third round. Apol Suico showcased his power punches as he TKOed Eddie Villagas, while Armando Casa and Edwin Ramugan scored a unanimous decision each over Gedion Amba and Abner Llanasa, respectively.
