2012: POTENTIALLY A GREAT YEAR FOR BOXING

Ladies and gentlemen, another year has come and gone. Faster than a Manny Pacquiao flurry. Quicker than it takes anyone with the last name Mayweather to say or do something ignorant. More rapidly than it takes Dan Rafael to wolf down a cheeseburger and fries. I?ve come to the conclusion that a year isn?t nearly as long as it sounds. What do people say at the end of every year? ?Boy the year flew by, didn?t it?? If every year seems to fly by, a year ain?t that long, dummy! Of course, a horrible year probably wouldn?t fly by. It?s all about your circumstances during that 365 day period. I?m sure the years aren?t zooming by for Ike Ibeabuchi.

2011 was a decent year for boxing, culminating with the finale of the Super Six Super Middleweight tournament and Andre Ward claiming the grand prize over a tough and worthy competitor in Carl Froch, who was very classy in defeat.

Rather than recap 2011, let?s look ahead to the first half of 2012 and what is scheduled and also potentially in store for boxing fans. First and foremost, in light of the recent news about Floyd Mayweather being sentenced to 90 days in jail, he will wait beyond May to fight again. The good news is we will still most likely get to see by the end of 2012 the fight we have now been waiting an amazing 2+ years for: Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao. For the life of me, I can?t figure out how these two haven?t fought twice by now with all that money on the table. It?s really unbelievable and moronic that this fight hasn?t happened at least once by now. The fact that all these idiots haven?t been able to figure out how to deliver the biggest fight in boxing history to the fans that have made them rich is both sickening and shocking, but I think we are going to finally see it! I have a good title: ?Better Late than Never?. My early pick is Mayweather by either a late-round TKO or a 116-112 type decision. Let?s keep our fingers crossed that it happens in May.
