If a dominant points victory over Haye in Hamburg on July 2 was not enough, Klitschko has twisted the knife into his former rival – currently negotiating to fight elder brother Vitali, the WBC belt holder, in March 2012.
Wladimir, holder of the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight titles, and regarded as the No 1 heavyweight on the planet, said: “David Haye walks around with a battered ego. He cannot even hold his head high in his own country, because he embarrassed himself when we fought, and showed that he was a chicken for 12 rounds.
“David just didn’t want the challenge after I’d hit him. After all the trash-talking, a lot of it below the belt, he disappointed a lot of people in his own country and that makes him really upset. He walks the streets embarrassed in his own country.”
Klitschko is convinced Haye will return from his self-enforced retirement to face Vitali.
“I have a funny feeling he won’t retire. He is an athlete, and athletes have an ego,” said Klitschko. “That ego is damaged right now. If he is a real man, he will come back. Slowly, I think the reality is dawning on him and he is carrying a terrible embarrassment over what happened against me in July.
