LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The ferocious third installment of the Pacquiao-Marquez trilogy may have ended in 12 rounds, but the fuming anger of Mexican fight fans was extensive outside the arena.
Marquez?s camp also expressed their dissatisfaction with the three boxing judges.
?It hurts in the sport of boxing very much because, I don’t think it was by four points, I think it was very close. I think they should fire these judges?I think the judges were very partial and this really hurts the sports,” said Fernando Beltran, Marquez?s manager.
Mexican boxer Omar Chavez, for his part, said: ?[It?s a] good fight but I think Marquez won, style makes fight, Marquez is the perfect fighter for Pacquiao.”
Marquez?s colleague in ESPN Deportes is also disappointed. Reporter Jaime Motta said, ?It’s bad for boxing, I asked Manny, he said he thinks he won clearly?[but] his facial expressions didn’t convey what he was saying.”
Retired NBA player Jalen Rose is also not convinced of the outcome. ?I look at the fight two ways, I come from a school [where] you have to do more to beat a champ, but I?m just scoring it, I feel like Marquez probably had the edge on points.?
He also said, ?anytime you go against fight like Manny Pacquiao, you have to be on top of your game?[nonetheless] he was the guy with better defense, he frustrated Manny Pacquiao, I thought I have him winning 2 or 3 points.?
Meanwhile, Pacquiao?s camp and Filipinos in attendance said Marquez should accept and respect the judges? decisions.
?We can have this fight ten times and I think it’s gonna end up in controversy every time because [of their] styles. That’s what [this] is all about,? said Michael Koncz, Pacquiao?s manager.
Fan Ivy Wisco, on the other hand, said: ?It’s the judges? decision. The referee made the decision. I think it’s fair Manny is the champion.”
One of the most anticipated fights in boxing ends with mixed reactions.
While judges ruled in favor of Pacquiao, Marquez thinks differently. Now, both Top Rank and Marquez?s camp are keeping the option open for a fourth fight.
